![]() ![]() ![]() Now, you’re blaming the other paint company, ie. Let’s say that your painter gets it colour matched and then the colour looks wrong. What if you chose THE WRONG COLOUR TO BEGIN WITH. Sure, it’s possible to get a good colour match.īut there’s another common danger of doing colour matches. If your budget would be better spent with another paint company or your painter prefers a different paint company. Did you choose the right paint colour in the first place? So yes, this error can definitely happen if you buy paint from a brand that is NOT the same as your paint chip.īut there are two sides to this argument and you just heard the first one. That’s because the painter had it colour matched with a cheaper paint and it was not a good match. So I drove over with my paint colours, held up the paint sample I had recommended and it WAS wrong. I once had a client call me and declare that the red I had chosen to match the art in her dining room WAS WRONG. But if you do, I cannot guarantee that the colours will be the same.Īs a result, this often instills a fear of getting it WRONG in people’s heads and for good reason. Yes, you can have the paint colours I’ve selected for you matched with another paint company. ![]() Can I have these paint colours matched somewhere else?Īnyway, here’s the spiel I have given clients my entire career when they ask me if they can match their colours somewhere else: Register here, the WOW boxes for April’s course are shipping this week. My client also confided that she loved the package so much because, in addition to the step-by-step plan she received, the entire process gave her a visual template inside her head for making all kinds of other colour decisions too.Īnd if you need to create a visual template for your project – this is exactly what my two-day workshop will do for you, too. My system is entirely transferrable to other paint companies (provided the colours exist in their deck). To be clear, we will give you the colours you need in whatever paint system you’re using (as long as we have the fan decks). That mean she would need to get all the Benjamin Moore Colours from her eDesign renovation package matched. I was in a client’s home the other day and she told me that she just found out last minute that her painter uses Sherwin-Williams. However, there are a few things you want to consider before you try to match your paint colour. My clients often ask me if they can colour match the paint colours I’ve recommended with another paint company. ![]() ![]() ![]() They also produce a unimodal grind size, Gotthelf says, which lends itself to more even extraction and better flavor.Ĭreating a machine that can handle this is pretty expensive, and since the actual difference in grind consistency is fairly marginal, few companies have spent a lot of time trying to incorporate flat burrs into more affordable machines. But because of how they’re designed, with two equally sized burrs that sit on top of each other as they run (one fixed, while the other spins), flat burrs produce a lot more friction and heat than conical burrs. The best flat burr machines will produce coffee of a more consistent grind size than the best conical burr machine-it’s also why they tend to run a lot more expensive. The size of your grounds, finer or coarser, depends on how far apart you set the burrs. But if you’re someone who’s really serious about the quality of your cup of joe-and customizing the grind size based on whether you’re making a French press coffee or using an Aeropress-the only grinders worth considering will employ a pair of abrasive ceramic or stainless steel burrs to crush your beans to a consistent size. What's the difference between blade grinders and burr grinders?Īlmost everyone’s first coffee grinder purchase is a blade grinder, usually bought because paying $20 sounds a lot better than paying $150. Ideally, your coffee grinder should also be light and relatively small, but not so light that it rocks around spewing grounds everywhere every time it runs. Actually adjusting the grind size should be easy too, so that you have the option to toggle between a fine, medium, and coarse grind depending on the type of coffee you’ve decided to make. You shouldn’t have to do much more than just put in your coffee, flip a switch, wait a bit, and then take out your grounds. Like the very best coffee makers, the best grinders are extremely easy to use. The very best coffee grinders do more than just provide a consistent grind. ![]() Hence, taking the extra step to grind beans before you make coffee, rather than buying pre-ground coffee, improves your coffee's taste. Grinding your beans right before brewing gives the oxygen in that air less time to react with and remove all the wonderful flavor-producing chemicals you actually want to taste. The reasons for this are pretty simple: When you grind coffee, you increase the surface area that's exposed to oxygen. We need to smash coffee into smaller pieces so water can access all the things we want to get out of it, like flavor and caffeine.” The better your coffee grinder is, Gotthelf says, the better you’re able to access all of that good stuff for coffee brewing. Jenna Gotthelf- Counter Culture Coffee's national wholesale education manager, who has competed in over a dozen US Coffee Champs Brewers Cup and Barista competitions, up to the national level-explains the power of a good grinder thusly: “We can't just drop whole bean coffee in water and expect anything to happen. You could venture through the forests of Ethiopia, harvesting Geisha beans yourself and spend years honing the perfect pour-over technique, but without a good grinder, that fancy coffee is going to taste like flat coffee-flavored La Croix. ![]() Let’s get one thing straight right off the bat: The best coffee grinders are your ticket to the best brewed-at-home coffee. ![]() ![]() Silicon Mirror and Kaleidoscope will provide you with a fun and simple way to create one-off screensavers with any image you choose. The new Montessori daily schedule was an adjustment for me initially, but like most situations I have learned to adjust, embrace and enjoy the new program routine. It definitely makes things a little more challenging as there is often a different group coming each day and obviously it takes a lot longer for a child coming two days a week to learn the routine than it does for a child coming four or five days a week. to 1:00 p.m.) and to give parents the choice of enrolling their child 2, 3, 4 or 5 days a week. As one editor proclaimed “The United States should never let this work go to Florida,” since “it concerns the commerce of the United States, and is no local fortress.” New York Times editor Henry Raymond argued to the Republican Club on February 26, 1861, that the Union should keep all of its’ coastal forts. This bold move garnered praise from the North. After news of Florida’s secession on January 10 reached Key West on January 12, Captain Brannan moved his troops during the night from the barracks across the island to the fort. ![]() Artillery, and Captain Edward Hunt, Chief of Engineers, secured the fort for the Union. This realization came to late as Captain John Brannan, 1st U.S. The importance of the fort was not lost on either side and led to the Lewisburg (PA) Chronicle’s Key West correspondent to contend that, “In the case of a war with any maritime nation, the possession of Key West will be invaluable to us, both as a safe retreat for our merchantmen, and as a convenient harbor for men-of-war to recruit or get coal, water, and sea stores.” In January 1861, with secession and the imminent start to the war, the Weekly Mississippian argued that Fort Taylor’s importance couldn’t be “too highly estimated” and must “be taken possession of without delay by the Southern troops.” In the middle of the 19th Century, tensions were rising between the North and South, and the Civil War was on the horizon. Due to its remoteness, shortages in material and men, Yellow fever, and hurricanes slowing progress, the fort wasn’t completed until 1866. It was eventually named for President Zachary Taylor who fell ill and died suddenly on July 9th, 1850. Fort Taylor During the Civil WarĬonstruction of the fort began in 1845, shortly after Florida became a state on March 3rd. ![]() This industry made Key West the richest city per capita in the United States. As piracy was eliminated, wrecking and salvage became the main occupation of those living on the island. Privacy was such a problem that the government sent Commodore David Porter to put an end to it, establishing his home port on the island. Throughout the history of the Florida Keys, Key West’s deepwater port was attractive to pirates such as Blackbeard and Jean Lafitte. The name would not stick and soon the i sland became known as Key West. Named after Secretary of the Navy Smith Thompson. On March 25, 1822, he planted the US flag on what would first be called Thompson’s Island. Perry, USN, took control of the island for the US. But when Spain ceded control of Florida to the United States as part of the Onis-Adams Treaty, Commodore M.C. Simonton, from Alabama, bought Key West for $2,000, in 1821. They remained under Spanish control until John W. Salas was an officer with the Royal Spanish Navy Artillery posted in St. In 1815, the Governor of Havana deeded Cayo Hueso, now Key West, to Juan Pablo Salas. A separate treaty ceded control of Florida back to Spain in exchange for the Bahaman Islands. So another Treaty of Paris is signed on September 3, 1783, recognizing American Independence. After the American Revolution, England had little interest in keeping Florida. But Spain still contended that the Keys were part of Cuba. The First Treaty of Paris, signed on February 10, 1763, gave all of Florida to England. To regain these colonies, the Spanish gave up control of Florida. During the French and Indian War (Seven Years’ War), the British captured Spanish Cuba and the Philippines. But in the late 1700s and early 1800s, territorial rights to the Keys were unsettled. Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon claimed the island chain for Spain in 1513, calling them Los Martires (The Martyrs) because he thought they looked like suffering men from a distance. ![]() ![]() ![]() Global bunker fuel prices in shipping have come down after 2022 highsīunker fuel prices (Rotterdam) in $ per tonneĬlarksons, ING Research, last data point 6/9/23īunker prices are down against an inflationary backdrop Find our analysis for the container sector here. After two exceptionally profitable years, container liners are financially resilient though. With a mix of demand adjustment (and a mild contraction in 2023), resolved port congestion and a range of newly-ordered vessels coming online, elevated spot rates have plummeted as the market power shifts to the buyer side. A combination of high demand for consumer goods and multiple supply interruptions sent rates and profits to unprecedented levels over the last two years. Seaborne trade growth forecast in tonne-miles (% YoY) in 2023Ĭhallenging market dynamics in container shipping follow historic boomĬontainer shipping will leave the extraordinary pandemic years behind in 2023. Oil product shipping demand will see a continued rebound in 2023 Similarly, crude trade is being pushed up and to a much lesser extent this also impacts dry bulk shipping (coal, iron ore). This is pushing the expected growth in global oil product shipping up to double-digit levels in 2023, while tonnage demand will increase by just 4%. Western countries (G7) on the other hand have shifted away from importing Russian crude and oil products, and have started to import more crude oil from Saudi Arabia and the US and refined oil products like diesel from India. The impact of longer routes is most prominent in tanker shipping, with Russian oil flowing to China and India at a discount instead of making a short haul to Europe. Global seaborne trade growth (2021 = 100) Trade is sailing longer distances following sanctions on Russia With no signs of a reversal in policy, these extra miles will remain in place in 2024. With sanctions on Russian commodities coming into effect in batches, this will materialise in 2023 when seaborne ton-mileages are expected to gain more than 3% compared to a year earlier, which is more than the 1% trade growth we expect. Russian oil, gas, coal, iron ore and metals trade are still finding their way to markets, but to different buyers. The massive reshaping of shipping routes following Russian sanctions – which we explain in more detail here – has led to significantly longer mileages. Shipping activity is holding up better than world trade figures suggest, specifically on the (liquid) bulk side. Therefore, regional deployment across the globe will make a difference in carrier performance.įaltering trade isn’t the full story: longer trade routes push shipping demand higher Consequently, the development in intra-Asian traffic is likely to exceed the global average in 20, and the Middle East and Africa will follow suit. World merchant trade growth to lag GDP development in 2023-24Īgainst the backdrop of faltering economic growth in advanced economies, and emerging economies returning to their trend growth, trade activity is unequal across the world. Nevertheless, we still expect a stronger second half of 2023 once consumer spending on goods picks up alongside a normalisation of spending patterns, reduced inventories and wage growth. Growth is therefore set to remain low into 2024 and this means that shipping tonnage is also under pressure. Global trade has also entered a period of lower growth due to geopolitical concerns, protectionism, and supply chain reconsiderations. Global trade slipped into contraction at the end of 2022, following the rationalisation of piled-up inventories and the economic and industrial stagnation in the US and Europe. Global trade is changing and so is shipping Combined with recovered oil demand and longer trade routes, the market remains tight, leading to prolonged higher rates While the container segment is bracing for a flood of capacity, the order book for new tankers is still limited. Cargo growth is weak, but capacity is currently the most important factor to watch. ![]() ![]() The hydroformed tubes have unique shapes that provide style and function.
